Course – Using Your Brain and Thinking for Managers

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is aimed at managers, either in line, middle, strategic or supervisory roles who wish to be more effective at communicating and managing others. This course will in some respects, deconstruct the delegate so that they can better understand themselves and their thinking process and thereby, better understand how to manage others and see why and how they do the things they do.

Course Duration

This is a 2-day course.

How will the course be delivered?

This course will be delivered in a group environment which is highly interactive. It will include individual work, group work, working in pairs, discussions, and role play as well as direct input from the trainer.

All delegates will be encouraged throughout to participate by working within syndicates that are changed regularly, within the main group. Delegates will be introduced to various models and current thinking and best practice in training design and delivery.

Course delegates will produce a Personal Action Plan for before the end of the course.

Pre-Course Work

All delegates will be required to complete and number of tests prior to attendance. These include:

The Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI);
Thomas International Personal Profile Analysis;

Please allow 14 days prior to the start of this course for the completion of the above and report development.

Post Course Support

This course can have the benefit of a Post Course Support environment for 6 months after the training sessions at our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at www.123skilled.com; Our VLE will provide copies of all learning materials and tools plus a File Repository, Jargon Buster Glossary, Discussion Forum to share common knowledge and Private Messaging Systems for one-to-one contact with trainers or course delegates.

Skype Video Conferencing is also available as a post course support option.

As The Gill Payne Partnership Ltd is interested in what the delegates do with their newly learned skills, all delegates will be encouraged to email or telephone course trainers beyond the training days should they have further questions or queries.

As this course involves very personal and intimate details and can in some cases, cause the delegate to re-examine where they are in life and work, delegates will receive priority contact from The Gill Payne Partnership Ltd’s trainers.

It is also recommended that follow-up one-to-one sessions of at least 2 hours per delegate are ordered, to happen a few weeks after the training days.

Course Aim

For you in your management role, to identify a range of different ways in which we think and use our brains in order that we can understand our own and other’s behaviour and be more effective at communicating and managing others.

Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

Explore the Behavioural Iceberg and state what influences our observed behaviour;
Explore personal motivation factors based on the Marston Theory;
Receive and interpret you own Thomas International Personal Profile based on the above theory;
Identify your own personal preferred characteristics under the following circumstances:
- How you see yourself;
- How you are at work;
- How you behave under pressure;
To give and receive feedback to others based on the above
To explore different thinking styles, based on the Herrmann Institute Whole Brain Model;
To interpret your own thinking style based on the above model;
Recognise your own preferred ways of thinking and identify some implications of this for yourself and others that work with you;
Identify a number of different ways in which we learning and interpret our preferred learning style;
Undertake an exercise for “sexing your brain” and identify potential implications of this;
Develop a Personal Action Plan.
