The GPP Developing Manager Programme
The aim of the GPP Developing Manager Programme is to empower newly appointed managers with the foundations to enable them to develop their management career path in their company and support the Company’s goals.
Whilst this programme works in its present model, we can easily make adaptations to the content, if you have a particular focus you would like it to take, that is not currently shown.
By the end of the programme, delegates will have covered:
- Understanding what management is;
- Understanding what makes people tick;
- Recognising who the customers are;
- How to recognise and tackle issues of capability, conduct and misconduct;
- How to develop others;
- How to get them in and get them on;
- How to communicate effectively through reporting, dialogue, meetings and presentations;
- How to manage relationships;
- Cash and resource management;
- Health and Safety Management.
Organisations and companies considering implementing a GPP Developing Manager Programme, should consider and use the following selection criteria:
- Application Form for all delegates; the programme is Aimed at the First Time Manager;
- the delegate must manage people and have direct reports;
- the delegate must have the support of his/her line manager;
- the delegate must WANT to be on the programme and must be prepared to commit to the programme requirements.
Principles behind the programme
The programme is based on the following:
- Application Process to assure that development goes to the right people;
- Learning Logs are an integral part of the process;
- Line Managers are briefed on the requirements of the programme and their own responsibilities for staff development within the GPP Developing Manager Programme;
- Learners are split into learning groups for support and development outside the structured learning sessions;
- All sessions will have pre and post course work to maximise learning opportunities and put theory into practice;
- The Company’s goals will be integral to the programme;
- A variety of delivery methods will be used to match all learning styles. However, it is essential that all delegates have the opportunity to put things into practice even if this is initially alien to them. Therefore, there will be lots of opportunities for role-play;
- The programme will be evaluated in a variety of different ways. This will include reviewing pre and post work activities, Learning Logs, involvement of the Line Manager in the development and implementation of the activities from the Learning Logs, one to one sessions with one of the programme leaders, portfolio assessment;
- Ground Rules for the programme will be identified and agreed at the start of Module 1. They will be reviewed at the start of each subsequent Module;
- Each module will be delivered at 6 weekly intervals, making the duration of the programme around 9 months;
- The programme will be accredited via the Institute of Leadership and Management. The final session will involve the managers and those on the programme to cement what has been learned;
- Membership of the Learning Groups will be decided by the programme team. The objectives of the Learning Groups will be to get people from different companies to work together.
- Work must be done independently, but the group must work collectively to succeed! The group will have responsibility to ensure that each individual succeeds; The group must have contact from one module to the next, BUT THIS DOES NOT NEED TO BE FACE TO FACE CONTACT.
